About Sumitomo's Business Spirit
The origin of SMM Group dates back to Soga Riemon, the founder of Sumitomo Group, who developed a copper smelting technique known as “Nanban-buki” in the “Keicho” period (1596 to 1614). In succession of the founder's business, the Sumitomo family has developed itself through businesses such as copper smelting and mining.
On the other hand, Sumitomo Masatomo, the founder of the Sumitomo family, wrote and left “Monjuin Shiigaki” (Founder's Precepts), which describes how a merchant should conduct business. The precepts shown in the document have deepened into “Sumitomo's Business Spirit”, and this is now the spiritual backbone of SMM Group, which has succeeded the business of the Sumitomo
