Sodium-ion kinks need ironing before mounting lithium, nickel challenge

Sodium-ion technology – a type of battery unveiled by China’s top battery manufacturer this summer – is unlikely to displace existing lithium and nickel-based cell chemistries anytime soon as it does not offer significant improvements in safety and energy density, industry experts said at a conference on Tuesday.
