JFE Steel takes stake in Byerwen for US$550m

Japanese steel-maker JFE Steel Corp has paid US$550 million for a 30% stake in the Byerwen coal project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. JFE also agreed to a long-term, 2Mt/y coking-coal offtake agreement with the majority owner, private company QCoal Pty Ltd.
