An Australian law firm which worked with mining companies in Central Asia has won a three-year legal battle against former employees found to have committed fraud.

The Supreme Court of New South Wales found that former employees of Michael Wilson and Partners (MWP) had committed breaches of contract and fraud, and had illegally earned millions of dollars in transferring MWP mining clients to a separate company.

The transactions that the employees siphoned from MWP included those of Frontier Mining Ltd and Sunkar Resources plc.

“For many years now oil and mineral-rich Kazakhstan has been a true El Dorado for expatriate businessmen,” MWP said, “unfortunately some leave their ethics, morals and respect for laws behind.”
