LME volumes up 22% in 2011

The London Metal Exchange (LME) has reported record volumes and values traded in 2011.
Total volumes for the year were up almost 22%, with a total of 146.6 million lots traded. The total value traded was up by nearly a third to US$15,400 billion.
LME Aluminium, LME Copper and LME Zinc were the three largest contracts by volume, with 62.8 million (2010: 50.1 million), 37.9 million (2010: 33.1 million) and 23.0 million (2010: 18.8 million) lots traded, respectively.
LME Lead trades rose the most, with a 40% increase, with aluminium trading increasing by over 25%.
In minor metals, cobalt traded 6,578 lots in 2011, equivalent to 6,578t and US$233.5 million. LME Molybdenum traded 513 lots, equivalent to 3,078t and US$104.6 million.
