"The accident occurred when the driver of the light vehicle in which they were travelling, lost control of the truck on a haul road to the mine," the Canada-based company said.

"Directors and management would like to extend their deep condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased."

SEMAFO said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

It had filed a report with authorities and said the contracting company was investigating the cause of the accident.

A series of fatal attacks near SEMAFO's two Burkina Faso mines, Mana and Boungou, had prompted the company to tighten security protocols last year.

Its shares have ranges from C$2.23-$4.14 over the past year and closed on Friday at $3.55, capitalising it at $1.16 billion.
