The Mine of the Month article is an opportunity to look at some of the world’s mines in greater depth, covering history of ownership and development as well as recent production figures and investment plans for the future, whether in terms of a major expansion or upgrades to existing infrastructure.
The material is based on interviews with mine managers and engineers, sometimes during mine visits by Mining Magazine editorial staff.
There are no strict rules to the inclusion of a mine – subjects as varied as gold in Papua New Guinea and South Africa, Chilean copper and diamonds in Namibia have been covered.
Equally the purpose is not necessarily to tell only the positive stories about the operations – some of the most interesting parts of the articles are often how mining operations have faced up to difficulties, whether related to accidents, production difficulties or environmental pressures.
