AUSTRALIA DAY 18-05-12
Date: Friday 18th May 2012
Australia’s commodity export earnings are forecast to reach a record high of approximately US$250 billion in 2011-12. Mined commodities like iron ore and coal, continue to underpin the figures, while strong export performances were also expected from thermal coal, gold and alumina. In 2011–12, the volume of mine production is forecast to rise by 10%, having increased by an estimated 2% in 2010–11
With burgeoning demand again from Asia, it appears that the boom times will continue. Indeed, the Reserve Bank of Australia predicted last year that the current mining boom could outlast those of the past. According to ABARES The combined capital expenditure of Australia’s advanced minerals and energy projects was a record $173.5 billion in April 2011, 31 per cent higher than in October 2010.
