Canadian expenditure on exploration and deposit appraisals was expected to reach US$3.2 billion in 2011, putting the sector back into a record setting trend that prevailed prior to the downturn.
The North American country’s provinces continue to dominate the Fraser Institute's ranking of the world's most attractive exploration destinations. In the institution's mid-2011 rankings, 3 Canadian provinces were ranked in the top five places (Alberta 1st, Saskatchewan 3rd, Quebec 4th).
These province offer strong government support, knowledgeable policy makers and many provinces continue to offer exploration incentives. Because of the local expertise, Canadian companies are also successful explorers around the world.
This also makes company’s operating in the country, attractive merger and acquisition targets. In the first half of 2011 a total of 129 deals were reported on mining assets in Canada, the most in the world, according to Ernst & Young.
