GOLD AND PRECIOUS METALS DAY 08-04-11
Date: Friday 8th April 2011
Gold has continued its near ten-year bull run. The price averaged US$872/oz in 2008, US$972/oz in 2009 and breached US$1,300/oz in October 2010. Much of the increase has been attributed to the burgeoning interest from investors.
Mined production contributed 62% of the total supply in 2009, with scrap recovery adding 37% (one of the largest contributions ever from this sector). Official sales collapsed in 2009 (down almost 90%) as central banks reversed their earlier bullion-selling strategies.
With the worldwide economic recovery looking fragile, and the US dollar weakening, the short-term conditions for gold look set fair.
