GOLD DAY 07-09-10
Date: Tuesday 7th September 2010
Gold has been enjoying a bull run since the start of 2001, and averaged US$972/oz in 2009 (compared with US$872/oz in 2008).
Supply of the metal was dominated in 2009 by mined production (62% of the total) and scrap recovery (37%, which was one of the largest contributions ever from this sector). Official sales collapsed (down almost 90%) and contributed only 1% to the overall supply of gold.
Until last year, total mined gold production had been generally declining since early 2005, especially amongst the historic 'big four' (South Africa, the US, Australia and Canada).
Although the long-term price outlook is uncertain, the short-term conditions look set fair for the precious metal.
Gold Day 07-09-10 is a morning event.
