It said the addition of Alan Edwards, James Gowans and Judy Kirk would augment the board's experience and expertise in large-scale openpit mining, as well as First Nations engagement.

In turn, Ingrid Hibbard and Robert Doyle stepped down from the Detour board.

Edwards has 35 years' experience in mining, with his most recent role as chairman of AuRico Gold, where he oversaw M&A activity and eventually the merger with Alamos Gold in 2015. Over the course of his career he also worked at Kinross Gold, Freeport Indonesia, Cyprus Amax Minerals Company and Phelps Dodge.

Gowans also has over 30 years' experience in the exploration and development and most recently served as president and CEO of Arizona Mining before it was recently acquired by South32. He has also had senior positions at Barrick Gold, Debswana Diamond Company, De Beers and Placer Dome, among others.

Corporate social responsibility and First Nations engagement will be assisted by Kirk, who has been involved in strategic communication, public consultation and engagement specialisation for 30 years. She has worked with CN, Teck Resources, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the Britich Columbia ministry of transportation and infrastructure and Metlakatla First Nations.
