Equinox Gold (TSXV:EQX) has chosen James Currie as its new COO after David Laing resigned to pursue other interests.

James Currie has been consulting on Equinox's Aurizona gold project in Brazil since June

Currie has been consulting on Equinox's Aurizona development since June and also worked at the recently acquired Mesquite gold mine over the 2009-2011 period when he was COO of New Gold.

He has also been COO for a number of other companies, including Pretium Resources, and had led the development of a number of mines.

Laing will remain in an advisory capacity to Equinox's senior management team.
