Do African coups matter?
The military coup in Guinea has set tongues wagging, not least because some of the biggest names in the world of mining have interests there - Robert Friedland, Mick Davis (former boss of Xstrata), Jakob Stausholm (boss of Rio Tinto which owns part of the massive Simandou iron ore deposit), and Russian aluminium tycoon Oleg Derispaska who has an indirect interest in Rusal, which controls three Guinean bauxite mines and one alumina refinery.
One can't say how much sleep these individuals are losing following the ousting of octogenarian former president Alpha Condé. Arguably, it will come right for them in the end as Sub-Saharan African...
