Finland’s government will propose a new mining law in September that will be put to a parliamentary vote next year, Economy Minister Mauri Pekkarinen told reporters at a press conference in Helsinki.

The government won’t subsidise the construction of mines, though it may provide money to build infrastructure to support the industry, Mr Pekkarinen said.

Local municipalities will maintain a veto right to bloc uranium mining in their area, he said.
