Nyrstar NV, the world’s largest zinc smelter, plans to expand into mining to secure raw-material supplies following a strategic review of its business.
“Our aim is that smelting and mining will both provide valuable contributions to our earnings,” chief executive Roland Junck said in a statement.
The London-based company said in May it bought three zinc mines from a unit of Strategic Resource Acquisition Corp. for about €10 million euros (US$14 million) to obtain raw material for its smelter in nearby Clarksville, Tennessee.
