Cyclone Yasi has passed over Mount Isa, without serious damage to the area. Xstrata reports that it has already restarted its operations, having evacuated the mines on Thursday.
Xstrata's chief operating officer for North Queensland, Steve de Kruijff, added that a preliminary investigation of the company's port facilities had not identified any major structural damage. He warned, however, that "a comprehensive site audit of our Townsville port and refinery operations is yet to be completed as part of the recovery planning process".
Meanwhile, Conquest Mining reported that its Pajingo gold mine near Charters Towers had suffered no damage. The operation had been evacuated ahead of the storm as a precaution.
