The Mining Journal website this week includes the Statement of Issues released by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on the proposed joint venture of BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto’s iron-ore assets in Western Australia.

In the statement, the ACCC highlights changes in circumstances in iron-ore markets since it last reviewed the proposed merger in 2008.

These include the fact that Australia’s leading purchaser of the steel-making material has expressed concern about the proposed joint venture, and possible changes to the expansion plans of its existing and potential competitors.
