The Mining Journal website this week includes a report from Ernst & Young entitled 'Global steel – 2010 trends, 2011 outlook '.

The issues, challenges and opportunities for the steel sector are examined in the report, which concludes that India is set to become a global "steel powerhouse".

The leader of E&Y's Global Mining & Metals team, Mike Elliott, says "India is poised to become a dominant player in the global steel sector". He notes "a stampede of steelmakers to India" but warns "fluctuations in demand and raw material price volatility are the two biggest challenges facing steelmakers".
