The Mining Journal website this week includes a report on Africa's mineral development regimes. The report was published last month by the International Study Group, which was established in 2007 by the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

The report analyses African mining from a number of perspectives, driven by a search for new directions based on the African Mining Vision (AMV), which African leaders adopted in 2009.

Conclusions are based on the central premise of the AMV that the structural transformation of African economies is an essential component of any long-term strategy. The proposals are designed to meet the African Union's Millennium Development Goals; namely to eradicate poverty, and to underpin sustainable growth and development.
