Copper has been steadily coming off its high of over US$2.70 per pound or $6,000 per tonne for months now with punts on high demand and continued crises at major operations falling over because of higher-than-expected stockpiles and concerns over Chinese demand.

This week, the copper price was headed towards $2.50/lb and Barclays said its 2017 average estimate of that level was still looking good.
