Steel yourself for the worst

There’s a worrying picture emerging in the global steel industry. While in the UK, China is being blamed for the loss of more jobs at Tata Steel’s Port Talbot works in Wales, the realisation that the Asian nation’s steel production and demand have peaked is raising wider concerns throughout the whole supply chain.

These two issues are related. China, which in recent years has strived for consumption-led growth in steel, has taken its eye off all-important demand.
