Three centuries of British coal come to end

Three hundred years of British coal mining will end around December 15 when UK Coal Holdings shuts down the country’s last remaining deep-underground mine, at Kellingley in Yorkshire.

Thoresby Colliery, the other remaining coal mine, was shut down by UK Coal Holdings last week after 90 years of operations. Its 360 employees were made redundant, the company said.
