Waking from a Russian nightmare

In 2009 Russia-focused gold miner Petropavlovsk was flying – the gold price was climbing, production was growing, and dividends were flowing. Investors compared and contrasted the company against Randgold Resources and it had nudged itself into the FTSE 250. A lot can change in six years.

Petropavlovsk was always a ‘strap-yourself- in’ style of gold miner, even for mining investors who are traditionally comfortable with risk.
