Zinc miners eye Tinka as Ayawilca expands

Mining companies are lining up to kick the tyres at Tinka Resources’ Ayawilca project in central Peru after recent deal-making left the company holding the world’s largest undeveloped zinc deposit not in the hands of a producer.

That title had belonged to Arizona Mining's Hermosa project until the company was acquired in June this year by South32 in a deal worth US$1.3 billion.

"There are a number of parties that have shown interest and we have confidentiality agreements signed with quite a few groups", Tinka CEO Graham Carman told Mining Journal in Lima this week.
