The Chilean government is reportedly in advanced talks with Chinese and Korean investors to capitalise on the country’s lithium potential and set up a $2 billion mega-lithium battery plant in the country’s north.

Battery plant tipped to capitalise on Chile’s abundant lithium reserves

According to Spanish news service Pulso, the talks are being held with Chinese firms Vision Group, Kanhoo Group and Shenzhen MTL Group, and Korean businessmen based in Chile.

In the initial $500 million phase, the plant would produce 1,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, reaching 10,000t by 2028, according to a consultant close to the project.
