Rainbow doubles plant capacity

London-listed Rainbow Rare Earths has doubled the capacity of its proposed downstream processing plant in South Africa, which will take concentrate from its fledgling Gakara mine across the border in Burundi, currently at the trial-mining stage.

Gakara will deliver a mixed rare earth carbonate containing 39% neodymium and praseodymium

A preliminary economic assessment on the facility from 2015 had outlined a 5,000 tonne per annum "cracking plant", which the latest revision has increased to 10,000tpa.
