Newmont Mining has revealed the executive group to lead the newly formed Newmont Goldcorp following the expected successful closure of its US$10 billion Goldcorp acquisition in June.

Newmont has promoted Tom Palmer to president and COO

CEO Gary Goldberg will remain at the helm until the end of 2019, with president Tom Palmer (effective June 1) reporting to Goldberg.

From June 1, Rob Atkinson will take over the role of COO.

Also effective from June 1, Dean Gehring will take up the position as chief technology officer, Steve Gottesfeld will become chief sustainability and external affairs officer, while Nancy Lipson will become general counsel.

During the fourth quarter, Jennifer Cmil will transition to the role of EVP for human resources.

CFO Nancy Buese and SVP for exploration Marcelo Godoy will stay on in their current roles.

"Leadership of Newmont Goldcorp will feature some of the industry's best talent and most experienced mining executives known for superior operational execution, consistent project delivery and leadership in safety and sustainability," said Goldberg.

Palmer added the ongoing focus would be on continuity and strategic leadership development.

"This focus ensures that Newmont Goldcorp will maintain deep bench strength and top talent to effectively run our business, achieve competitive advantage and continue to deliver superior business results and long-term value for our shareholders and other stakeholders."
