Mining leaders can no longer overlook mental health

In the mining regions of Eastern Germany, you can still hear the traditional greeting of “Glück auf!” or “Good luck!”. This is what miners called out, for hundreds of years, as they left the pit, to the workers starting the next shift. It expresses a double wish. Good luck finding the next lode, and good luck getting out of the mine alive.

The physical dangers of mining have never been far from the minds of anyone who worked in the industry.
