Cyber security in mining: not an underground risk

Mining companies are no strangers to navigating a varied risk landscape. Historically the sector has grappled with health and safety, operating in hostile and remote environments, volatile commodity markets, and resource nationalism. While these risks remain top priorities, cyber security is featuring ever more prominently on companies’ corporate risk registers. A recent survey has identified cyber security as a top-10 strategic risk to the sector as a whole, above (for example) fraud and corruption risk; cyber also cuts across many of the other thematic risks identified in the report.
