Ivanhoe secures hydropower for Kamoa-Kakula expansion

Ivanhoe Mines and partner Zijin Mining have increased their power supply options for phases 3-5 of the Kamoa-Kakula copper project by signing an MOU with the DRC’s state-owned power company to fund the refurbishment of a turbine at a hydroelectricity plant on the Congo river.

The public-private partnership between Ivanhoe Mines Energy DRC - a subsidiary of the Kamoa-Kakula joint venture - and La Societe Nationale d'Electricite (SNEL) will see the upgraded fifth turbine at
