The US frac-sand dilemma

The emergence of fracking in North America is likely to lead to a huge leap in demand for frac sands in the next few years, analysts have predicted. The problem with this is the supply might not be there to match it, a management consultancy believes.

Energy analyst Sonny Randhawa said last year frac-sand demand was set to increase from 25.4 million tonnes in 2014 to 76.2Mt by 2016.
