Strong metals prices boost Glencore amid coal decline

Multi-year highs in base metals prices outweighed the effects of a soft coal market to leave Glencore’s full year EBITDA 5% ahead of consensus forecasts at US$11.6 billion, while the company also reinstated its dividend at US$0.12/sh.

Glencore had a mixed 2020 with metal prices surging but coal was weaker

Although the EBITDA figure was flat year-on-year, earnings in Glencore's metals division rose 31% to $7.3 billion versus 2019 in contrast to its energy division which saw a 73% slump to $1 billion.
