Canadian explorer SilverCrest is channel sampling high-grade areas in the rehabilitated historic workings at the Mexican mine. Results released this week include samples of 6.4m at 6.28g/t gold and 857g/t silver and 3.8m at 8.05g/t gold and 847g/t silver.

SilverCrest highlighted a composite sample of 35m along strike with true thickness of 5m at 4.9g/t gold and 632g/t silver.

The explorer says historical production records at Las Chispas suggests an average grade of 15g/t gold and 1,700g/t silver.

SilverCrest is now 25,000m into a 29,000m drill programme at the old mine.

Its maiden resource at the project was expected by the end of the year but SilverCrest has pushed that back to the March quarter.
