Two PhD researchers will each get A$20,000 (US$15,000) to "support Australia's future minerals production pipeline".

Alicia Caruso from the University of Adelaide has partnered with Investigator Resources (AU:IVR) to develop remote sensing techniques.

The South Australian government describes the exploration technique as using "reflected solar radiation and emitted/reflected thermal radiation from the earth's surface to map changes in surface materials through variation in their spectral absorbance".

Fellow recipient Jonathan Hamisi is from Monash University in Melbourne, and his research is around "improving exploration for iron oxide, copper and gold deposits by investigating hydrothermal fluid phase separation and its impact on albitisation".

His industry partner is Minotaur Exploration (AU:MEP), which has also funded Monash's work into similar ongoing work at the massive Olympic Dam deposit in South Australia.
