Fura Gems makes two senior hires

Gemstone explorer Fura Gems (CN:FUR) has appointed two new senior staff, adding Rupak Sen as vice president of marketing and sales and Armando Diaz as project manager of its Colombia operations.

Fura Gems has hired Rupak Sen and Armando Diaz to forward its gemstone business

Sen will be responsible for global marketing, communications and sales of rough gemstones and will be based in Dubai.
 
He previously worked at Gemfields, which was recently taken over by Pallinghurst Resources (SJ:PGL), for nine years, filling the roles of acting global director for marketing and polished sales and sales director for Asia. Prior to this, he worked for De Beers' diamond promotion service Swatch Group. 
 
Diaz will be responsible for developing Fura's flagship Coscuez emerald mine recently acquired for US$10.2 million. He will oversee strategic planning, overall development, implementation of the sustainability framework and communication with the local community.
 
He has over 30 years' experience in mining and also comes from Gemfields where he was a project manager in Colombia. He previously worked as operations manager for Hindustan Zinc's (IN:HZ) Indian underground mines, First Quantum Minerals' (CN:FM) Kansanshi openpit mine, Glencore's (LN:GLEN) Mopani underground operation and various underground projects in South America.
