Mumford has extensive experience in British Columbia's Gold Triangle mining district, having done his PhD on magmatic controls for the Thor Lake rare earth element deposit in the Northwest Territories.

His background is in gold, rare earth elements, copper porphyry and uranium deposits, specialising in magmatic deposits and alpine geological mapping.

Mumford was previously a lecturer at Carleton University and the British Columbia Institute of Technology
