Collaboration crucial in closure success

Good closure planning needs to embed all relevant disciplines into planning processes from the beginning, according to the International Council on Mining & Metals head of responsible mine closure projects, Alice Davies.

"Understanding that the mine will be a temporary feature in the landscape and will at some point transition from mine site to its next land use, is a paradigm shift in the way many miners think," she said.

"For us to realise the opportunities, requires everyone involved in the industry to start thinking this way."
