Caterpillar's Jean Savage and Andrew Ransley talk to Mining Journal

Mining Journal

In a wide-ranging interview, the pair pointed to the near-term emergence of the first cab-less haul truck https://www.mining-journal.com/innovation/news/1346343/cab-less-haul-truck-approaching and the need for miners to overcome the "fear factor" and trust machine-generated data. https://www.mining-journal.com/innovation/news/1346345/mining-data-and-the-fear-factor

Given the potential for change in the industry, the emergence of more agile organisations and changing community, government and market expectations, Mining Journal asked Savage and Ransley how the world's largest traditional manufacturer/supplier of mining equipment would need to evolve to meet faster, or perhaps radical, change in the demands of one of its biggest markets?

With us this week …

Jean Savage, surface mining and technology division vice president, Caterpillar

Andrew Ransley, mining manager - Asia-Pacific, Caterpillar

Jean Savage was formerly senior vice president and COO of the Locomotive and Railcar Services business unit for Caterpillar subsidiary Progress Rail Services (PRS).

Savage has a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a master's degree in engineering management from the University of Dayton.

Andrew Ransley joined Caterpillar in 1995 and has held roles including managing director for Caterpillar Underground Mining in Burnie, Tasmania, and product manager for Large Tractors in Peoria, Illinois.
