Saudi to play significant part in mineral supply

Saudi Arabia's entry to the mineral supply equation is "significant", according to Colorado School of Mines professor and director of the Payne Institute, Morgan Bazilian told Mining Journal this week.

Speaking with Mining Journal managing editor Chris Cann, he said the intent to be a key player in the mineral supply chain for the critical minerals space was there in Saudi Arabia, as well as the building blocks to have a downstream presence through processing industries. This was, however, not without its challenges.

Skills strategy key to Saudi success

Nurturing and attracting mining skills sets will be the main obstacle for Saudi Arabia in establishing its mining sector, according to Colorado School of Mines professor and director of the Payne Institute, Morgan Bazilian told Mining Journal this week.

Speaking with Mining Journal's managing editor Chris Cann, he said Saudi could look to templates from jurisdictions where skills had been successfully nurtured, such as North America and Australia, and had the investment weight to accelerate the execution of such templates.
