Altius reports in-line Q4

Royalty company Altius Minerals—which has seen strong gains to its share price this year on the back of strong commodity prices—saw Q4 earnings which were largely in-line-to-marginally-below analyst estimates.

"Net earnings during the fourth quarter were C$2.8 million (US$2.19 million) or C$0.07 per share, and C$0.19 per share on an adjusted basis. This compares to net earnings of C$12.4 million or C$0.30 per share, and on an adjusted basis C$0.18 per share in Q4 2020," the TSX-listed company said.

Altius' adjusted EBITDA for the fourth quarter was C$17.7 million, or C$0.43 per share, which compares to adjusted EBITDA of C$17.6 million in Q4 2020.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Rene Cartier said the adjusted earnings per share were in line with consensus, and a bit below BMO's estimate of C$0.21. Adjusted EBITDA, meanwhile, was slightly below consensus and BMO's estimates of C$19.6 million and C$19.1 million, Cartier said.

Altius had previously released its royalty revenue for the quarter of C$23.46 million, which was slightly better than expected, Cartier noted.

The company has interests in operations producing base metals, potash, iron ore, and thermal coal.

The company's share price on the Toronto Stock Exchange was C$24.91 March 10, which is up 4% day on day. That has climbed from C$17.41/share since the beginning of the year.

Altius has a market capitalisation of C$1.03 billion.
