Strong Codelco September maintains Chile's copper production

Chile produced 479,900 tonnes of copper in September, 0.8% less than in the same month in 2019, according to data from state copper agency Cochilco.

State copper company Codelco saw its production increase 9.6% to 159,200t in September compared with the prior year period.

Production at the BHP-controlled Escondida fell 6% to 94,100t, while the Collahuasi mine logged a 9.4% increase to 53,400t.

Molybdenum production increased 21.2% in the month to 5,310t from 4,382t in the 2019 period, with increased output from Codelco's Chuquicamata and Radimiro Tomic mines, Antofagasta Minerals' Los Pelambres mine, and Collahuasi.

Cochilco also reported that gold production in August fell 25.2% to 2.5t.
