Bolivia pays up over Quiborax expropriation

Bolivia has agreed to pay more than US$40 million in compensation to Chile-based mining company Quiborax for expropriating mining claims on the Salar de Uyuni after more than a decade of arbitration proceedings between the two sides.

Chile's Quiborax has been in a long-running dispute with the government of Bolivia

The country's mining minister Cesar Navarro Miranda announced the agreement on June 7, just days after the Washington DC-based International Centre for Settlement of Investment Dispute rejected an attempt by the South American country to annul a ruling in favour of Quiborax.
