Adani has sought up to A$1 billion (US$0.76 billion) from the federal government's Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) to help build a 388km rail line to link the mine in the Galilee Basin to the Abbot Point port.

Palaszczuk has denied any conflict of interest after revealing on Friday her partner Shaun Drabsch had worked on Adani's NAIF application for his employer, PricewaterhouseCoopers.

When asked on its Facebook page about the funding and whether it was going ahead, Adani Australia responded this morning by saying "we're going ahead".

It said early works had begun on what is set to become Australia's largest coal mine, producing up to 60 million tonnes per annum over a 60-year mine life.

The project has been dogged by environmental protests and was recently opposed by the New York Times' editorial board.

Queensland's elections will be held on November 25.
