The Congress in Peru, a bedrock of the South American mining scene, has voted to impeach sitting president Martin Vizcarra on the grounds of “moral incapacity” related to corruption allegations with Congress head, right wing conservative Manuel Merino, to be sworn in as president.

Lawmakers from nine parties joined forces to oust Vizcarra with 105 of Peru's 130 lawmakers voting to remove him, with the government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic also a factor in their
